Not a Border, But a Line of Contact: Recognize This – "Jrapard"

"Jrapard" newspaper reports that a document was published yesterday, which is currently being negotiated by Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia. Later, the acting Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, confirmed in parliament that this is indeed the document being discussed, which he also labeled as favorable for Armenia.

It should be noted that after the signing of this document, the process of demarcation and delimitation should begin. As independent MP Taguhi Tovmasyan voiced in parliament yesterday, this may pose risks regarding Artsakh and could mean closing off all possibilities for resolving the Artsakh issue and liberating today’s occupied territories.

Ultimately, what significance will this document have regarding Artsakh, and what risks does it present? The "Jrapard" newspaper sought answers from David Babayan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Artsakh.

"I have not seen the original of this document, and I do not know what points it contains. But the question is that Artsakh has never been, and should not be considered, part of Azerbaijan. Currently, Azerbaijan has occupied about 80% of the Artsakh region, and we see the condition it is in. Azerbaijan's territorial integrity cannot extend to Artsakh," he stated.

According to Babayan, without resolving borders and other issues, countries can recognize each other.

"We do not consider that a border, but rather a line of contact. Any resident of Artsakh thinks this way. The people of Armenia should have their vision and a unified approach," he added.
