Diplomats' Visit to Lake Sevan Causes Concern for Military Leadership and Russian Peacekeepers
The newspaper "Hraparak" reports, "Yesterday, the ambassadors of EU member states visited the Syunik region to closely familiarize themselves with the situation around Lake Sevan. However, according to some sources, the ambassadors did not approach the lake closely and returned from a nearby height. We were informed that, despite being accompanied by Deputy Foreign Minister Avet Adonts, the visit of the ambassadors has raised concerns for both the military leadership and the Russian peacekeepers.
Moreover, we had information that the Russian side was categorically opposed to this visit, suspecting that it could be an attempt to push them out of the process, and they tried to prevent the ambassadors' entry into the area through the Armenian military leadership.
We also learned that, although the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had allowed the media to cover the ambassadors' visit to the lake area and accredited representatives from several media outlets, at the last moment, the Ministry of Defense prohibited it. Meanwhile, just a few days ago, when Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan was visiting Lake Sevan, the Ministry of Defense had permitted journalists from Public Television and a local newspaper to accompany him, only banning entry for non-local media outlets," the newspaper writes.
