Artsakh's Foreign Ministry Welcomes Resolution on Return of Armenian Prisoners of War by European Parliament

Artsakh's Foreign Ministry welcomes the resolution adopted by the European Parliament on May 20, which calls for the immediate and unconditional release of all Armenian prisoners of war and civilians captured during and after the war unleashed by the Azerbaijani-Turkish tandem against the people of Artsakh.

“We highly appreciate the efforts of the significant majority of European Parliament members directed towards solving this important humanitarian issue through continuous pressure to ensure that Azerbaijan fulfills its international commitments, particularly those set forth in the European Convention on Human Rights and the Geneva Conventions. This resolution will significantly contribute to the collective efforts of the international community aimed at the repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war,” stated the Artsakh Foreign Ministry.

We note with satisfaction that the resolution emphasizes the importance of security for Artsakh and the protection of the cultural heritage of Artsakh in territories under Azerbaijani occupation. We underscore the European Parliament's assertion that the principles of equal rights for peoples and the right of nations to self-determination are essential for determining the future status of Nagorno-Karabakh.

We also welcome the resolution adopted by the European Parliament on May 19, which calls on the EU and its member states to classify the “Grey Wolves” movement, described as “racist right-wing extremism,” as a terrorist organization and to prohibit the activities of this movement's associations and organizations in EU member states. This resolution is a significant step in the fight against extremism and racism in the region. It will also send a clear and important message to rogue states that the international community is opposing their genocidal policies,” the Artsakh Foreign Ministry's statement reads.
