Soldier Sustains Head Injury; Investigative Committee Provides Details
Last night, a criminal case was initiated regarding the death of a soldier at one of the RA military units. This information was reported by the Investigative Committee of Armenia.
The Ministry of Defense had stated today that on May 4, around 20:00, during a shift change at one of the combat positions located in the southern direction, a conscript soldier, Private Artyom Hovik Melkonyan, sustained a fatal gunshot wound due to a violation of weapon use rules by a fellow service member.
The Investigative Committee specifies that the soldier was injured in the head region.
“In connection with the incident, a criminal case has been launched at the Ninth Garrison Investigative Department of the Military Investigation Main Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia under Article 373, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (violation of the rules for handling weapons, military ammunition, and other objects and materials that pose greater danger to the environment). An investigation is underway,” the statement from the Investigative Committee reads.
Necessary investigative and procedural actions are being taken to ensure a comprehensive, complete, and objective examination of the case.
