In Russia, Police Shoot Man Who Took His Mother Hostage
On Sunday, police shot a man who had taken his mother hostage in Obninsk, Kaluga region, reports Interfax citing the press service of the regional department of the Russian Investigative Committee.
"He resisted law enforcement officials, injuring one of them with a knife, after which the police used their weapons and killed the man. His mother was freed and did not suffer any injuries," the press service stated.
Preliminary data indicates that the deceased was a 32-year-old resident of Moscow who had recently moved to Obninsk with his mother. The press service from the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs suggested that the man may have been under the influence of drugs. He was standing on the balcony with a knife held to his mother's throat.
According to the press service, the police attempted to negotiate with the man, but he did not communicate with the law enforcement officers.
The injured police officer was taken to the hospital. His life is not in danger.
