38-Year-Old Ejmiatsin Resident Assaults Police Officers; Preliminary Investigation Completed
The Criminal Investigation Committee of Armenia has announced that the preliminary investigation into the assault of police officers by a 38-year-old resident of Ejmiatsin has been completed.
According to the information provided by the Committee, on August 31, 2020, around 16:20, police officers performing their official duties near the Ejmiatsin city hall noticed that the 38-year-old man was not wearing a protective mask as required by the government decree. When the officers approached him and requested to see his identification documents, he replied that he did not have any identification and would not provide any information.
The officer informed the man that he needed to present himself at the police station, where his identity would be verified and an administrative violation record would be prepared before he could leave. However, the individual did not comply with the officer’s lawful requests and attempted to leave. The police then tried to detain him, but the man actively resisted, during which he intentionally assaulted the police officers, causing injuries by striking them with his hands.
Based on the gathered evidence, the 38-year-old Ejmiatsin resident has been charged under Part 1 of Article 316 of the RA Criminal Code, which pertains to the use of violence against a representative of the authorities. A signature not to leave has been chosen as a preventive measure for him.
The preliminary investigation has been completed, and the criminal case has been sent to court with an accusatory conclusion.
Note: The suspected or accused person is considered innocent until proven guilty by a final court ruling in accordance with the procedures established by the Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia.
