If We Ruin Kond, 2800-Year-Old Yerevan Will Lose Its Appeal to Tourists, Former Deputy Minister
The former Deputy Minister of Culture of Armenia, Tigran Galstyan, wrote on his Facebook page: "How can we announce an architectural competition for the Kond district of Yerevan without conducting archaeological excavations and studies? The urban planning and architectural project for the improvement of a neighborhood with immovable cultural heritage can only be implemented after a thorough study, analysis, and the establishment of criteria for the area.
Kond is Yerevan's last chance to present itself as the 'old town' in tourist language. If we ruin Kond, 2800-year-old Yerevan will lose its appeal to tourists and would be deprived of an important layer of the historical and cultural heritage from that period."
