Emergency Incident in Nubarashen Prison: Body of 28-Year-Old Ukrainian Found in Quarantine Cell

On January 11, an emergency incident occurred at the 'Nubarashen' penitentiary institution, known to the public as the 'Sovetashen prison,' as reported by shamshyan.com.

According to the source, around 09:30, the prison's duty staff noticed a man hanging from the bars in quarantine cell number 10.

Information about the incident was communicated to the Erebuni division of the Police and the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia for the Erebuni and Nubarashen administrative districts, where an operational investigative group was dispatched.

Police and investigators determined that the deceased was 28-year-old Valery Komendants, a citizen of Ukraine.

The source also reports that he had been in the penitentiary since August 20, 2020, as a suspect under article 38-267, part 1, clause 3 and article 34-266, part 2, clause 2 of the Armenian Criminal Code.

In connection with the case, Senior Investigator Hovhannisyan from the Erebuni and Nubarashen investigative department ordered several examinations, including forensic medical investigations.
