Alen Simonyan Explains Why They Haven't Approached CSTO
The area enshrined in the Nagorno-Karabakh Constitution is not part of the CSTO. This was stated by Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Alen Simonyan during a briefing with reporters, addressing the question of why the authorities have not appealed to the CSTO.
“For that reason, initiating such a process within the CSTO, also considering that there are countries within the CSTO that have close partnership relations with Azerbaijan, could be ineffective. Because, I repeat, it is the Republic of Armenia that is a member, not the Artsakh Republic. This is simple, straightforward logic,” said Simonyan.
He emphasized that when incidents have occurred related to the Armenian border, they have reached out. “I also appealed during the CSTO meeting and requested intervention, after which there was a request from our Russian counterpart, the Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, to the CSTO leader Zas, and there is a video of that which has been published. The rest, I think, is already clear,” the deputy noted.
