Seven Parties and Two Alliances Enter Georgian Parliament
The ruling "Georgian Dream" party has secured 48.15 percent of the votes with its party list in the parliamentary elections, according to the data from the Central Electoral Commission following the counting of votes from all polling stations.
As reported by Armenpress, citing RIA Novosti, in second place is the opposition alliance led by Mikheil Saakashvili, "Strength is in Unity" with 27.14 percent of the votes. A multi-party parliament is being formed, with seven parties and two political alliances that have surpassed the one percent electoral threshold.
Out of the 30 single-mandate constituencies, second rounds will be held in 17. Previously, protests against the election results began in Tbilisi, with participants gathering in the city center and then moving towards the residence of Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of "Georgian Dream." Another mass rally demanding early elections is scheduled for one week later.
Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili, who received support from "Georgian Dream" in the presidential elections, described the recent voting as peaceful, democratic, and fair. The OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) stated that the elections were held with respect for fundamental rights of expression, but highlighted several nuances, such as the notable administrative "dominance" of the ruling party.
