Ankara Prosecutor's Office Initiates Proceedings Against French Charlie Hebdo
The Ankara Prosecutor's Office has initiated proceedings against the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in connection with the publication of a caricature of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, TASS reports.
The source clarifies that the case has been opened against the magazine's staff. According to the authoritative Reuters agency, Turkey intends to take legal and diplomatic measures regarding the publication of this caricature.
It is noted that the Turkish Presidential Communications Office has expressed a corresponding stance on the matter. The magazine's caricature depicts Erdoğan in a semi-nude state lifting the skirt of a maid standing next to him. The accompanying text states that 'Erdoğan is a very happy man in his personal life.'
It should be reminded that tensions between France and some Muslim countries escalated following the beheading of a history teacher in France on October 16. It is known that the student beheaded the teacher for showing caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad. Following this incident, Macron promised to fight against Islamist separatism, which he believes is spreading in some Muslim communities in France.
Due to Macron's statement, Erdoğan declared that he has 'mental disorders,' after which Paris recalled its ambassador from Ankara and Erdoğan called for a boycott of French products.
