Will the New Law Be Adopted? What to Expect on September 11
According to the newspaper «Jhoghovurd», efforts to maintain restrictions without extending the state of emergency are nearing completion. Lusine Martirosyan, the head of the Public Relations and Media Department of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, informed «Jhoghovurd» that the work on the drafting of the legislation has been completed and sent to the Prime Minister’s Office. However, she did not provide further details.
It is known that for nearly a month, the Ministry of Health has been collaborating with the Ministry of Justice on a legislative initiative to avoid extending the state of emergency again on September 11 while still maintaining the restrictions.
It is important to note that the legal regime of the state of emergency has been extended until September 11, thus, either the drafts must be adopted before that date, or the state of emergency will be extended. However, during the parliamentary discussions on August 12, the Armenian Chief of Police Tigran Avinyan stated that the state of emergency would be extended for the last time, implying that a new law must be adopted before September.
