Protests in Minsk End Near Detention Centers
Protests held in the capital of Belarus, Minsk, on August 17 concluded in the evening near the buildings of detention centers where several demonstrators protesting the presidential election results are being held, TASS reports.
Initially, several thousand people moved from Independence Square in Minsk towards the detention center No. 1 located on Volodarsky Street, where, according to opposition representatives, blogger Sergei Tikhanovsky is being held. He was barred from running in the presidential elections, leading to his wife, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, stepping in as a candidate.
The protesters demanded the release of both Tikhanovsky and the detained demonstrators. Additionally, some citizens at the operational camp set up on Okrestina Street are providing legal assistance to visitors, distributing water, and are prepared to administer first aid if necessary.
