VIDEO: Thank you, you can continue shouting. Lukashenko responds to strikers' shouts of 'go away'
A video has surfaced online showing Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko meeting with the striking workers of the Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant, where employees chant for him to leave. The video was posted on the YouTube page of tut.by.
“Thank you. I will respond to your question: you can continue shouting,” Lukashenko said in response to the workers' chants of 'go away.'
Previously, it was reported that during his meeting with the striking employees, Lukashenko stated that there would not be a repeat election in the country. “Never expect that I can do something under pressure. They will not come to power. Because there will be neither the Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant, nor the Minsk Automobile Plant, nor the Belarusian Automobile Plant; everything will be destroyed within six months,” Lukashenko said, as quoted by the BelTA agency.
“You speak of unfair elections and want to hold fair elections?” the president asked. “I answer this question: we have held elections. Until you kill me, there will be no other elections,” he added.
He called for the redistribution of governmental powers through a constitutional process rather than through street protests.
Protests have continued in Belarus since the presidential elections, with participants expressing their dissatisfaction with the election results, which declared the incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko the winner with 80% of the vote, while Svetlana Tikhanovskaya received only 10.12%.
According to official data, over 6,700 people were detained in the first days of the protests. As reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, hundreds of people have been injured during the unrest, including more than 120 law enforcement officers, and one protester has died.
