Lebanon's Prime Minister Officially Announces Government Resignation
Lebanon's Prime Minister Hassan Diab has announced the resignation of the entire government, as reported by Interfax.
“We want to open doors on the path of national salvation for our homeland. Today, I announce the resignation of this government,” Diab said in a message addressed to the Lebanese people.
He blamed previous administrations for attempting to shift the responsibility for their mistakes and the ongoing crisis in the country onto his government from the very first day of its formation. “We tried to create a working group to address the issues, but we encountered very thick and opaque walls,” Diab noted.
He stated that “the explosion at the Beirut port was a consequence of the corruption system in our country.” “I previously stated that the corruption system is ruthless across all sectors of the state. But I have discovered that the corruption system is above the state,” he added.
