Birth Rate Declines in Armenia Compared to Last Year in First Half of 2020
In the first six months of this year, the number of births in Armenia has decreased. According to reports, there were 15,893 births registered from January to June last year. It is noteworthy that since 2018, there has been a trend of decreasing births in the country; the number of births in January-June 2018 was 16,261, 16,021 in January-June 2019, and 15,893 in the first half of this year.
According to the Statistical Committee, there was one case of maternal mortality registered in the first half of this year related to complications of pregnancy and during the perinatal period. At the same time, it is noted that the number of deaths has increased. Officially, during the same period, there were 14,417 registered deaths. To compare, the number of deaths in January-June of last year was 13,724, and in 2018, there were 13,218 deaths reported.
On the other hand, it is reported that out of 1,000 marriages registered in the republic from January to June 2020, there were 284 divorces, compared to 242 cases in the same period last year.
