Will the Powers of the Speaker of the National Assembly Increase? Following Suren Grigoryan’s Proposal
The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports: The proposal put forward by Suren Grigoryan, a member of the "My Step" faction in the National Assembly, has been received ambiguously by parliamentary factions. The My Step MP suggests amending the constitutional "Regulation of the National Assembly" and the law on the "Commission on Prevention of Corruption" of the Republic of Armenia.
The proposed changes concern the formation of the governing council of the Commission on Prevention of Corruption. Essentially, his amendments will increase the powers of the Speaker of the National Assembly, while eliminating the rights granted to the factions. In other words, the oversight of the National Assembly will be replaced by the participation of the Speaker alone.
The MP proposes to add to the number of powers reserved for the Speaker of the National Assembly through the "Regulation of the National Assembly," establishing that he appoints candidates for the position of the member representing the National Assembly in the competitive council formed for the selection of candidates for the Commission on Prevention of Corruption.
For this purpose, the Speaker of the National Assembly will form a council consisting of one member appointed by the Government, the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Supreme Judicial Council, the Human Rights Defender, and the Bar Association. It should be noted that it was previously stipulated that the council also included a representative of the National Assembly proposed by consensus from all factions; however, instead, it will be Mirzoyan who will be in this council.
