Second Airplane with Serbian Aid Lands in Yerevan

“Assistance during difficult times is a guarantee of a better future for the people of Armenia,” stated Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in a message accompanying the arrival of the second airplane loaded with humanitarian aid, including medical equipment and supplies, from Serbia to Armenia today.

This delivery follows the landing of the first airplane with Serbian aid at Yerevan’s Zvartnots Airport yesterday, bringing essential medical equipment and numerous supplies to Armenia, as part of agreements between Armenian President Armen Sarkissian and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

Two flights from a Serbian airline have transported 10 artificial ventilation machines, 10 monitors to control patient conditions, 500,000 surgical masks, 100,000 respiratory masks, 25,000 protective goggles, 25,000 medical protective suits, and other necessary supplies to Armenia.

The significant aid provided to Armenia in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic is rooted in the warm relations between Presidents Armen Sarkissian and Aleksandar Vucic. Prior to this humanitarian assistance, the presidents had engaged in telephone conversations.

In her remarks, Tatiana Tsvetkovich, the interim chargé d'affaires of Serbia in Armenia, described the provision of humanitarian aid as a vivid testament to the excellent relations between the two countries. “One of the most important manifestations of the friendly relations between our presidents, governments, and peoples is the arrival of this airplane loaded with medical equipment at a time when Armenia needs it the most. Until recently, the issue of the coronavirus pandemic was a focal point in Serbia as well, and we fully understand what it means to fight against COVID-19,” said Tatiana Tsvetkovich.

“Recently, when the two presidents talked on the phone, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic offered support and assistance to Armenia. I am pleased that just a few weeks after that conversation, we can see the result—humanitarian support arriving in Armenia. This truly speaks to the nature of their official and personal relations,” she added.

Georgy Melikyan, an assistant to the President of Armenia, also emphasized that the extensive support from Serbia is a testament to the friendship between the two countries. “This indicates the deepening relations between Armenia and Serbia, in which President Armen Sarkissian has made a personal contribution,” he noted, adding that the humanitarian assistance received will be transferred to the Ministry of Health and directed toward combating the pandemic.
