Hearing on Gagik Tsarukyan's Detention Request Concludes; Ruling to Be Announced This Sunday
The hearing on the motion to detain the leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party, Gagik Tsarukyan, has just concluded at the Shengavit Court of General Jurisdiction in Yerevan, presided over by Judge Robert Papoyan. The ruling will be announced this Sunday.
In a conversation with reporters, Tsarukyan's lawyer Samvel Dilbandyan stated that the submitted motion is illegal and unfounded. “We have presented all objections. I believe the court will rise to the occasion and will definitely reject the submitted motion,” he said.
It is noted that Gagik Tsarukyan has been charged with bribing voters. He denies the charges and describes the case as fabricated.
Recall that on June 16, the National Assembly approved two motions presented by Armenia's Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan concerning the removal of Tsarukyan's parliamentary immunity and his detention.
