Russia Plans to Start Production of Coronavirus Vaccine This Summer
Russia has set a deadline for the mass production of a coronavirus vaccine by the end of summer. Alexander Gintsburg, the director of the Gamaleya Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, informed RIA Novosti about this timeline.
He noted that this deadline has been established due to the circumstances surrounding the pandemic. Although it may not be possible to immediately ramp up mass production to supply everyone with the vaccine, the healthcare system is preparing for it.
According to the institute's director, preclinical trials on small mammals have already been completed. The initial results are satisfactory, showing positive outcomes from a toxicological perspective. Specialists have reported that the trials are now ongoing with monkeys, and the preliminary results are also favorable.
Following these trials, the institute will seek permission from the country's Ministry of Health to conduct human trials. The director mentioned that the ministry intends to consider their application rapidly, and they hope to receive permission by June 15.
It was previously reported that successful trials of a COVID-19 vaccine had been announced in Russia.
