Arrest Made Near 'Didi Kond' Monument in Aragatsotn Province Involving 'Thief by Law' Gevork from Oshakan

On May 15, an extraordinary incident occurred in Aragatsotn Province. Around 5:30 PM, the police department in Ashtarak received a call from 56-year-old Manuk Manukyan, a resident of the village of Byurakan, who reported that an incident was taking place near the 'Kond' monument in the village of Oshakan and police presence was needed.

According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, police discovered that 50-year-old Gevork Melikyan, a resident of Oshakan, had organized the installation of a cross at the historical and cultural monument known as 'Didi Kond', causing damage to the overall appearance of the monument during the construction work.

Hours later, Ashtarak police detained Gevork Melikyan, Arthur Harutyunyan, a 52-year-old resident of Oshakan, and 28-year-old Arthur Barseghyan from the village of Dashtakar from the area of the mentioned monument.

Materials are being prepared at the investigative department of the Ashtarak police concerning this incident. According to G. Shamshyan's information, detained Gevork Melikyan is known as 'Thief by Law' Gevork from Oshakan, while the caller, Manuk Manukyan, serves as the head of the Regional Service for the Preservation of Historical Environment in Aragatsotn Province.
