Arthur Davtyan Calls NSS Disclosure on Corruption Case a Backstab
The disclosure by the National Security Service (NSS) regarding the prosecutor's corruption case was described as a backstab for the Chief Prosecutor of Armenia, Arthur Davtyan. He spoke about this issue on March 10 during an extended meeting of the Prosecutor General's Office.
Specifically, according to the reports from the 'Zhoghovurd' newspaper, Davtyan addressed the NSS's revelation about the 2019 corruption case involving a prosecutor. He stated that this incident was a backstab to them, saying, 'They hit us from behind,' during the meeting.
The disclosure concerns Levon Karapetyan, who, as the senior prosecutor of the legal assurance department of the organizational and supervisory division of the Prosecutor General's Office, received a bribe of $1,300 in June 2019 from Karen Tadevosyan, a relative of Gurgen Gasparyan, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison at the 'Kosh' penitentiary.
Additionally, according to information received by 'Zhoghovurd,' the prosecutor also referred to the incidents of suicides in the army this year and made it clear to the prosecutors that before he went to Artsakh, the prosecutors did not begin their work and raised the question of why this was the case. All of this was listened to by the prosecutors with their heads down.
It should be noted that during the meeting, the results of the activities in 2019, the operations of the criminal prosecution bodies in the fight against crime, and the implementation of prosecutorial functions were summarized. For instance, according to the available data, 26,850 crimes were recorded in the republic in 2019. However, the state of crimes against property, especially the level of fighting against residential burglaries, was considered alarming during the collegiate meeting,” the newspaper writes.
