Central Election Commission Informs Papikyan on Strict Adherence to Referendum Law Requirements
The Central Election Commission has announced that it has reviewed the speech of Suren Papikyan, the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia, during the session of the National Assembly on March 4, 2020. In accordance with part 8 of Article 49 of the Electoral Code of the Republic of Armenia, as a matter requiring an operational solution, immediate communication was established with the representative of the "Yes" campaign and Minister Suren Papikyan. The Commission highlighted the need to strictly adhere to the requirements of part 14 of Article 17 of the Constitutional Law on Referendum during the referendum campaigning period.
Following his speech in the National Assembly on March 4, there were reactions claiming that he conducted direct campaigning for "Yes" from the podium, denying information that regional governors were instructing community leaders to work in favor of the "Yes" headquarters.
