Charges Filed Against Abovyan Mayor
The Investigative Committee of Armenia's Kotayk Province has initiated charges against the Mayor of Abovyan.
According to the gathered evidence regarding the criminal case investigated by the Abovyan investigative division of the regional investigative department of the Kotayk Province, it has been established that one of the LLCs in the Abovyan community unlawfully occupied a land area of 2240 m2 and conducted unauthorized construction on it. The mayor, who is legally obligated to prevent the illegal appropriation of community-owned land, the unauthorized construction of buildings, and to eliminate the consequences of illegal construction, merely subjected the company to an administrative fine of 400,000 AMD.
As a result of the apparent inaction of the community leader, the illegal appropriation of land and unauthorized construction continued for an extended period. The mayor has been charged under Article 315.2 of the Criminal Code of Armenia for failing to take action to halt the illegal appropriation of state or community property and for not preventing or suspending unauthorized constructions as prescribed by law. A signature not to leave has been chosen as a preventive measure against him.
