Metro Spokesperson: Disinfectant Operations Not Conducted Despite Thousands Using Metro
Yesterday, the Yerevan Metro conducted disinfection operations at the "Barekamutyun" and "Garegin Nzhdeh" stations using special substances on all trains. Following the release of a video on this activity, the Ministry of Health stated that these actions are not related to disinfection. "The Ministry of Health has not yet submitted a proposal for disinfection in the metro. What is visible in the video released by the Yerevan Metro cannot be considered either disinfection or wet cleaning," the ministry noted.
In an interview with ArmDaily.am, Metro spokesperson Tatev Khachatryan explained that when the first case of coronavirus was confirmed, the Metro management initiated disinfection operations. "Each metro employee interacts with about 80,000 citizens daily. Considering our employees' safety, we decided to prevent the spread of the virus in the metro. These were special medical materials. Primarily, we disinfected areas that people frequently touch, such as doors and seats. Based on certain considerations, these measures help prevent the spread of the virus," Khachatryan stated.
Khachatryan also mentioned that the Ministry of Health has not conducted any disinfectant operations, taking into account that thousands of people use the metro daily. "The same goes for masks. We are unable to find masks and gloves for our employees. With the resources we have, we have tried to do our utmost to protect passengers from further infection," she added.
