Investigative Committee Offered Deal to Defendant in Illegal Adoption Case
The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports that a defendant in the illegal adoption case, the director of Yerevan's "Child House" NGO, Liana Karepedyan, was urged by investigators about a month ago to share important information regarding the case, promising her release in exchange.
This information was revealed to "Zhoghovurd" by Liana Karepedyan's son, Davit Sahakyan.
As known, on November 22, 2019, the National Security Service announced that it had uncovered multiple cases of children being adopted by foreigners in gross violation of Armenian law. Charges have been brought against obstetrician-gynecologist Razmik Abrahamyan, director Liana Karepedyan, and Arshak Jerjeryan in connection with the illegal adoption case. On February 28, defendant Liana Karepedyan was released on a bail of 6 million AMD.
Moreover, Karepedyan's son provided interesting details to "Zhoghovurd": "During the interrogation, one of the investigators told my mother, 'Ms. Karepedyan, we have recorded phone calls where you expressed joy upon receiving news of the child's adoption decision.' Can you imagine, these people don't even understand that the adoption of a child is in the best interest of the child? My mother was astonished and replied, 'Yes, of course, I am happy.'"
