There is Absolutely No Need to Close the Border with Georgia
There is absolutely no need to close the border with Georgia. This was stated by Armenia's Minister of Health Arsen Torosyan during a press conference today. The three cases in Georgia are local import cases: two from Iran through Azerbaijan, and one from Milan. If I am not mistaken, they are all feeling well, and the circle of contacts has been isolated based on the same principles, with no cases of local transmission reported so far.
As the virus is circulating in almost all countries, the need to close borders is virtually eliminated. Around a thousand of our citizens have returned from China since the onset of the disease's spread. None of them have tested positive for the virus.
If there are individuals wishing to return from China, we are prepared to discuss their transportation options with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Minister Torosyan also refuted claims that 26 citizens from China want to return to Armenia but are being denied entry.
