Putin Holds Security Council Meeting on Syria
Russian President Vladimir Putin has held an operational consultation with members of the Security Council regarding the situation in Syria's Idlib province.
As reported by Russian President's Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov to journalists, the situation around Idlib was discussed, and participants expressed concern over the escalation that has occurred in that region of Syria.
The situation in northwestern Syria has deteriorated following the intensification of terrorist groups. Earlier, they had attacked the positions of the Syrian army. In response, Assad's forces deployed their fighter jets.
As a result of the air strikes, Turkish soldiers were killed, who, as it later turned out, were among the extremists.
“Turkish soldiers were killed at the site of the operations of terrorist band groups. Among these terrorist band groups, there are indeed many foreign mercenaries, including those born in the former Soviet Union. The Turkish side has denied the presence of Turkish soldiers there, despite our numerous inquiries,” noted the Kremlin representative.
It is noteworthy that after the killing of 33 Turkish soldiers, President Erdogan had called Putin. Prior to that, Ankara had convened an emergency NATO meeting in Brussels.
