Emergency Situation in Lori Province: Sewage Floods Cemeteries
For 10 days now, an emergency situation has been in place in Lori Province. Due to a blockage in the sewage system, wastewater is flowing and filling the cemeteries in the Bazum neighborhood of Vanadzor city. According to photo journalist Gagik Shamshyan, the sewage has already flooded hundreds of graves, many of which are now out of order as the wastewater has damaged the walls of the graves and weakened them.
In a conversation with Shamshyan.com’s correspondent, relatives of the deceased stated, “Who has seen such desecration, where wastewater flows over the graves of our loved ones? We have died calling Veolia, they only say they will come, but there has been no news for 10 days, while the sewage has filled the graves. A pool of sewage has formed in front of the pictures of the deceased, there is no place to step. Such a thing could not even be imagined in movies, this is sacrilege.”
The relatives of the deceased blame Veolia Water Company for all of this, saying, “When we saw that the sewage system was blocked, we immediately called, even several times a day, but each time they say different things, sometimes the equipment cannot work in the area, other times they say the problem is serious, but who cares, we are also dealing with our loved ones’ graves in this way, how would they treat us?”
