«Zhamanak»: Medical Masks Have Increased in Price Sixfold in One Month

«Zhamanak» newspaper reports: “During the active season of coronavirus and acute respiratory infections, it is nearly impossible to find masks in pharmacies, and those that are available are becoming more expensive by the day. For comparison, about a month ago, a regular three-layer mask cost 25 drams, while today it is priced at 150-300 drams.

A pregnant woman who contacted our editorial office mentioned that she requires 4-5 masks daily when going out. She stated that she is forced to visit several pharmacies and pay significantly more.

It is strange that during a pandemic or a similar threat, logic suggests that masks should be more accessible and affordable, but the opposite is true in our case,” the woman lamented.

Additionally, we found that during this time, some individuals are buying masks and medical gloves in large quantities from pharmacies and reselling them at a higher price on list.am. For instance, medical masks are being sold for 300 drams. This means that in one month, the price of medical masks has increased nearly sixfold, and there is no oversight to prevent this.”
