Road Closures and Difficult Driving Conditions Across Armenia, Including Larsi
The Ministry of Emergency Situations reports that as of February 2, at 10:00 AM, there are closed and difficult driving conditions on roads throughout Armenia.
The Vardenyats Pass and the Sotk-Karvachar road are hard to navigate for all types of vehicles due to blizzard, fog, and snow, while trucks are prohibited from venturing there. Roads in Shirak Province are challenging for all vehicle types because of black ice.
The Sotk-Karvachar road is only passable for trucks with chains, while passenger vehicles find it difficult to navigate. There are reports of black ice on various roads in the provinces of Syunik and Kotayk.
According to information received from the Emergency Situations Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Crisis Management Center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia’s North Ossetia, the Stepantsminda-Larsi road is closed for all types of vehicles. As of 09:10 AM, it was reported from the Russian Crisis Management Center that 240 trucks and 120 passenger cars are backed up on the Russian side of the border.
Drivers are advised to travel exclusively with winter tires.
