Revenge Against a Judge?
The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports: An unprecedented incident has been recorded in Armenia. For the first time in the history of the Armenian judiciary, shots were fired in the direction of the building of the Yerevan City Court of General Jurisdiction, specifically towards the window of Judge Tatevik Grigoryan's office.
Judge Grigoryan revealed the incident and filed a report with the police. When ArmLur.am inquired whether the gunfire might be a result of personal or professional revenge, she stated that she had been on vacation and did not believe it could be personal.
Yesterday, "Zhoghovurd" newspaper discussed the incident with Ruben Vardazaryan, the Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, to understand whether the shots were aimed at the courts or specifically against the independence of the judge. "I officially declare that I have no information regarding the reasons for the shooting, nor whether they shot, knowing that it was Tatevik Grigoryan's private office," he noted. "There is no criminal case in Tatevik Grigoryan's proceedings that could lead me to think that, for example, the reason might be that ongoing criminal case. However, this does not absolutely mean that it could not relate to previous cases; it may be some form of revenge regarding a specific issue. We do not confirm it, but we do not exclude it either," he added.
The occurrence is extremely alarming, as criminals' hands have begun to reach the courts, a sector that, apart from being the third authority in our country, is also one of the most crucial institutions for democracy.
