Video: A Large Media Empire Was Created, Led by the Country's Number One Son-in-Law - Movsisyan
The head of the Public Relations and Information Center of the Prime Minister's Office, Hovhannes Movsisyan, addressed the statement of Gegham Manukyan, the director of news and public-political programs at the "Yerkir Media" television company, during parliamentary hearings on legislative changes in the field of audiovisual media services. He noted that there is a political force that decides whether or not representatives will appear on certain television networks or news outlets.
“The issue is not only that representatives of any political force do not want to go to a certain television company; perhaps that is the case, I cannot say for sure. However, a much bigger problem arises when the television company itself selects a political force for itself and starts to promote it,” stated Hovhannes Movsisyan.
The head of the Public Relations and Information Center emphasized that for years the media landscape has been monopolized. “It is not a secret that a large media empire was created, which was led by the country's number one son-in-law. Under the leadership of this individual, the monopolization of the television sector has been achieved through the takeover of all possible branches of the industry. They measured television ratings and allocated advertising funds through interconnected companies, resulting in the substantial media empire that, according to experts, continues to exist today,” Hovhannes Movsisyan declared.
According to him, they have now initiated reforms aimed at de-monopolizing the media landscape and liberalizing the sector.
