89-Year-Old Yeghegnut Resident Reports Former Mayor's Abuses

The 89-year-old resident of Yeghegnut, Lentrush Kostanyan, has reached out to the Human Rights Defender's Office, presenting a series of reports regarding criminal activities.

The elderly resident details the abuses of the former village mayor, Misha Hovhannisyan, specifically citing the disappearance of 24 million drams intended for the construction of the village's drinking water system. This amount has vanished, leaving the village still struggling to secure proper drinking water.

Additionally, the mayor reportedly registered his brother as a water employee, who has been receiving a salary from the community budget without performing any duties. The school director has also allowed for abuses by registering several security guards who, according to Kostanyan, haven't even opened the school door.

For decades, funds have been embezzled in the village while law enforcement agencies have turned a blind eye to these actions. Kostanyan suspects that the mayor did not act alone, but rather did so with the knowledge and support of the former regional governor and police chief.
