More Than 35 University Students in India Participate in Protests

Students from 36 major universities in India are conducting protests against a new law on citizenship, as reported by The Times of India. The protests involve students from prestigious institutions such as the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in Mumbai, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in Chennai, and universities in Lucknow, Varanasi, Kochi, and Kolkata. Many of these institutions have suspended classes.

The students demand the repeal of what they perceive as an unjust citizenship law and express solidarity with their counterparts at Jamia Millia Islamia University in New Delhi and Aligarh Muslim University in Uttar Pradesh. The latter institutions have been closed until January 5 following large-scale protests that escalated into riots on December 16.
