Former Officials Deceived Surik Khachatryan: 'Zhamanak'

On November 19, the Special Investigative Service issued a statement announcing that criminal proceedings had been initiated against Surik Khachatryan, the former governor of Syunik, and a warrant for his arrest had been issued.

The newspaper 'Zhamanak' reports that Armenian law enforcement is well aware that Khachatryan is in London, the capital of the United Kingdom. He has health problems related to his heart. However, Khachatryan is not returning to Armenia not because of his health issues, as he stated in an interview. Representatives of the former government assured him that he should wait just a few months, after which a new government would be in place in Armenia, and he could return without the threat of criminal prosecution. Khachatryan believed them and is waiting.
