Snowfall and Blocked Trucks in Shirak Region
The section of the interstate road Gyumri-Bavra, known as the "Ghochi Spring," has become one of the most impassable and winding areas in the region. Since the morning, Georgian and Turkish trucks have been blocked here. This is reported by SHANTNEWS.am's correspondent.
The thick layer of snow and areas of black ice have prevented trucks traveling on summer tires from continuing their journey. Dozens of trucks were stranded right in the middle of the road.
Employees of the road construction company were spreading salt and sand, and as a result, they managed to remove about ten trucks from the blockage. However, the flow of trucks from Gyumri towards Bavra continued, leading to new traffic jams.
For passenger cars, the road has become one-way. The expected snowfall has not prompted drivers to replace their summer tires with winter ones, and many had turned back before even completing half of the difficult route.
In Ashotsk, the snowfall accompanied by snowdrifts further complicated the work of the servicing company. The cleared snow was once again appearing on the passable section.
Five units of equipment will work overnight to make the 30 km stretch of the Gyumri-Bavra road passable if the snowfall continues.
