Azerbaijan Does Not Want a Peaceful Resolution to the Conflict, Rubinyan

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had expected that Azerbaijan would accept the fact of a peaceful resolution to the issue of Artsakh. This was stated by Ruben Rubinyan, the head of the Armenian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, during a conversation with reporters.

When asked about Aliyev's statement that "Karabakh is Azerbaijan and that’s it, there is no such thing as the people of Karabakh," Rubinyan responded that Aliyev's reply proves that unlike the Armenian side, Azerbaijan does not have a constructive position.

"Azerbaijan, in fact, does not want a peaceful resolution to the conflict. What did the Prime Minister of Armenia say? There is a conflict, and if that conflict can have only a peaceful resolution, and if we want to achieve that resolution, then both the peoples of Armenia, Artsakh, and Azerbaijan must agree to it," he said, adding that Pashinyan expected the other side to recognize this fact as well.

When asked about the casualties and injuries at the border, and whether this indicates that the resolution of the issue is not progressing and that Pashinyan's proposal is not viable, Rubinyan responded: "This indicates that the existing formula for resolving the conflict is the only one that Azerbaijan does not accept and continues its militant statements."
