Former Director of Gyumri Branch of Conservatory Arrested

The Shirak Regional Court has just approved the request from the Shirak regional prosecutor's office and the investigative department to detain Karine Avdalyan, the former director of the Gyumri branch of the Komitas State Conservatory and president of the 'Renaissance' International Competition-Festival, for two months.

She has been charged with embezzlement of large amounts, fraud, and forgery of documents. She will be transferred from the court to the Abovyan Correctional Institution. According to the press service of the RA Prosecutor General's Office, 'In the framework of the ongoing criminal case, the former director of the Gyumri branch of the conservatory, Karine Avdalyan, has been charged under Article 179, Part 2, Point 3 of the RA Criminal Code, Article 179, Part 3, Point 1, and two episodes under Article 325, Part 1 for committing criminal acts.' A measure of restraint imposed on her was a signature not to leave the country.
