An Abovyan Resident Charged with Illegal Possession and Transportation of Weapons and Ammunition
The investigation into a criminal case regarding the illegal acquisition, possession, and transportation of weapons and ammunition has been completed within the Human Crimes Investigation Department of the Special Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia. Charges have been filed against a 38-year-old resident of Abovyan.
As part of the same investigation, related to a deliberately set fire that destroyed the entrance door of the suspect's apartment and a 'Nissan Tida' car parked in the yard belonging to his family, additional evidence emerged regarding another alleged crime.
During the course of the investigation, information was obtained about the illegal possession of firearms by the Abovyan resident. A search of the vehicle he operated revealed a firearm, specifically a pistol, complete with 8 rounds of ammunition.
In response to this, the Human Crimes Investigation Department has initiated a new criminal case concerning the illegal acquisition, possession, and transportation of weapons and ammunition, which has been consolidated with the case involving the intentional destruction of property by the resident of Abovyan.
Through necessary investigatory actions, it has been determined that the resident, born in 1981, illegally acquired and hid a 'Makarov' type pistol capable of firing and 8 rounds of ammunition in the vehicle he operated, a 'BMW X5'.
Based on sufficient evidence, the 38-year-old resident of Abovyan has been charged under Article 235, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. Pretrial detention has been applied as a measure of restraint.
A decision has been made to separate and isolate the criminal case regarding the illegal acquisition, possession, and transportation of weapons and ammunition, which has completed its investigation and been sent to the prosecutor responsible for oversight of the lawfulness of the investigation.
