The Supreme Judicial Council Would Not Allow Violation of David Grigoryan's Independence
The newly elected president of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) met with journalists and addressed almost all current issues raised in recent days.
In particular, regarding the criminal prosecution of judge David Grigoryan in the Kocharyan case, he noted that if the SJC had found any violation of Grigoryan's independence, they would not have allowed it. In fact, according to him, there were sufficient grounds for criminal prosecution. The court session scheduled for tomorrow regarding two judges will also be open to the public, and it is likely that the Minister of Justice will be present.
The SJC president even invited journalists, assuring that they will work transparently from now on. However, the SJC expressed concerns about the search of Grigoryan's office and other related issues, stating that there was nothing more they could do.
Speaking about the blockade of the courts, he emphasized that a politicized justice system is unacceptable and incomprehensible to him. Regarding a letter from Vahe Grigoryan, the SJC head has no opinion, and he considers it premature to speak about the ongoing changes within the Constitutional Court.
Nonetheless, he believes that both sides are attempting to exert pressure on the Kocharyan case, but this is merely an attempt.
In response to being labeled as someone favorable to the NSS, he stated that as a judge, he has considered cases related to the police's requests, which is his professional specialization. He has 200 cases under his review, which he will try to complete. If he realizes that he cannot finish them without compromising justice, only then will he consider transferring them.
