Suspect in Brutal Murder of Regional Administration Employee Arrested

Today, on August 21, an investigator of the Armenian Investigative Committee submitted a motion to the court of general jurisdiction in Lori province, requesting the court to impose a two-month detention on Aren M., a 20-year-old resident of the village of Gargarr in Lori province. Judge S. Baghdasaryan approved the motion, and Aren M. was escorted from the court to the Vanadzor Penitentiary by officers of the Lori regional police.

Earlier, the Investigative Committee announced that on August 18, 2019, a report was received from the Stepanavan division of the Lori regional police regarding a 46-year-old man's summer house being burned down and his body being discovered in that same summer house.

Preliminary data indicates that on August 17, 2019, at around 10:00 PM, during a dispute that arose over personal issues, the 20-year-old youth inflicted multiple stab wounds on the body of the 46-year-old man, killing him. Subsequently, with the intent to destroy the evidence of the crime, he set fire to the body and the summer house.

A criminal case has been initiated at the Stepanavan investigative division of the Lori regional investigative department under Part 1 of Article 104 and Part 2, Points 1 and 2 of Article 185 of the RA Criminal Code.

During the preliminary investigation, urgent investigative and procedural actions were carried out, including an external examination of the body, during which multiple stab and cut wounds were discovered.

As a result of the undertaken investigative actions and operational-intelligence measures, the identity of the alleged perpetrator, a 1999-born resident of Lori province, has been established. He has been arrested.
