Explosive Material Was Pre-Installed Under the Bridge: New Details

The Investigative Committee of Armenia has revealed details surrounding the explosion that took place on the Yerevan-Sevan highway following urgent investigative, procedural, and operational intelligence measures conducted by the Abovyan Investigative Division of the Kotayk Regional Investigative Department.

As a result of the criminal case initiated, three individuals, born in 1963, 1966, and 1974, have been arrested on suspicion of committing a crime defined under parts 2 and 6 of Article 34-104 and Article 235, part 1 of the Armenian Criminal Code.

Earlier reports indicated that preliminary data show that on August 2, 2019, around 12:30 PM, an individual allegedly involved in a criminal act pre-installed explosive material, which is classified as military ammunition, under the bridge located at the 15th kilometer of the Yerevan-Sevan highway. At that time, the explosive was detonated while the vehicles of M. Manukyan—a “Range Rover”—and the accompanying “Nissan Patrol” were passing; however, the crime was not completed due to circumstances beyond the perpetrator's control.
