Georgian MP's Intimate Video at the Center of Sex Scandal Distributed from Armenia, Says Georgian Interior Ministry
The Georgian Interior Ministry has identified the individual who first published the hidden camera footage of a Georgian parliament member's personal life. This was reported by Mamuka Chelidze, the acting head of the Central Criminal Police Department, according to Sputnik Georgia.
The footage in question is believed to be of an intimate nature and is eight years old, depicting Georgian parliament member Eka Beselia; it has been publicly accessible on the internet since January of this year. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has immediately launched a criminal case regarding the violation of personal privacy, and the video has been taken down.
During the investigation, 19 individuals have been detained, but the main suspect has been charged in absentia. The Georgian Interior Ministry has not disclosed any names, with the primary suspects referred to by their initials.
The investigation revealed that the video was distributed via the internet from Armenia in January 2019 by a Georgian national known as D.A. He reportedly received the footage from a Russian citizen, M.D., through Facebook Messenger.
Both individuals have been charged in absentia, and Tbilisi City Court has decided to issue an arrest warrant as a preventive measure. It is known that the Georgian national is currently convicted of murder on Armenian territory. The Georgian Interior Ministry has not disclosed the whereabouts of the Russian citizen involved in the case. However, it has been noted that the investigation was able to track him down thanks to cooperation with Armenian law enforcement agencies.
“The mobile phone of D.A. was confiscated from the Armenian institution of penal execution. Through comprehensive forensic examination, it was established that the video was disseminated from that device,” Chelidze stated.
