Inspector of the Social Security Department in Shirak Caught Taking Bribe
The main department for combating organized crime of the Police of the Republic of Armenia, in cooperation with the Shirak regional department and the Mush division, conducted operational-investigative activities that resulted in obtaining operational data regarding a corruption-related crime.
According to reports, an inspector from the Social Security Department of the Shirak Regional Administration, specifically from the 'Gyumri 2' territorial division, demanded and received a total of 63,000 AMD in bribes during 2017-2018 to include a woman in the list of beneficiaries and later, to avoid disqualifying her from receiving benefits. To include the same woman in the list of beneficiaries for 2019, the inspector demanded the amount of two months’ benefits, totaling 56,000 AMD.
On July 22, police officers apprehended him while he was receiving the demanded bribe and took him to the Mush police station. A criminal case has been initiated, and the circumstances are being clarified through an investigation.
