Explosion in Sisian was an attempted murder: details

The Investigative Committee has presented details regarding the causes and consequences of the explosion that occurred in Sisian.

"On July 18, 2019, an unknown person, with the intent to unlawfully take the life of another, in a manner dangerous to many, placed an explosive device classified as military ammunition, attached to a wire, at the outer handle of the metal door of a corridor adjacent to a barn in one of the houses on Kamo Street of Sisian. As a result, the owner of the premises, a resident of Sisian born in 1945, opened the aforementioned door from the inside around 05:40 with the aim of letting out livestock, and was killed on the spot due to the bodily injuries sustained from the ensuing explosion," reported the Investigative Committee.

A criminal case has been initiated in the Sisian division of the Syunik regional investigative department of the Republic of Armenia's Investigative Committee under the 2nd part of Article 104, clause 6, and the 1st part of Article 235 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. Necessary investigative, procedural, and operational-intelligence measures are being undertaken to clarify all circumstances of the incident and to identify the individual who committed the apparent crime," the Investigative Committee informed.
