Armenian Authorities Negotiate with Russia for Involvement in New Nuclear Power Plant Construction
The Armenian authorities are negotiating with Russia regarding its potential involvement in the construction of a new nuclear power plant in the Republic, Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan told RIA Novosti.
Avinyan, who is currently in New York attending UN events, stated, "Our energy system is built on three pillars: nuclear energy, thermal energy, and hydro energy. The contributions from these three sources of energy are almost equal. We do not wish to abandon nuclear energy."
He added, "We will continue to explore the possibilities of constructing a new nuclear power plant after the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant is closed."
"We are ready to discuss this topic (Russia's possible involvement in the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Armenia) with our Russian partners, and we have already begun such negotiations," the Deputy Prime Minister stated.
