Opposition Candidate Wins Again in Istanbul
The candidate of Turkey's Republican People's Party, Ekrem İmamoğlu, is leading in the results of the re-run municipal elections for the mayorship of Istanbul. According to the BBC, the ruling Justice and Development Party's candidate, former Prime Minister and Parliament Speaker Binali Yıldırım, has lost the elections in Istanbul.
We recall that the municipal elections in Turkey were held on March 31. At that time, İmamoğlu surpassed Yıldırım by receiving 4,171,000 votes. The Turkish ruling party contested the results, demanding the annulment of the election and calling for new elections in Istanbul.
