‘This is called a reserve gathering, held every year mandatorily’ - Arzhrun Hovhannisyan

Today, Armdaily.am received a letter from a citizen who wrote that reservists are being urged to present themselves at the military commissariat located in their place of residence (with their passports and military cards), supposedly for military exercises. The citizen indicated that there are threats that if they refuse or do not sign the notification, the police will come after them.

In an interview with the media, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, Arzhrun Hovhannisyan, stated that this process is not new and that administrative responsibility is currently planned for this. ‘There is no intimidation; this is a right enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia. This has always been the case. This is called a reserve gathering, held every year mandatorily. It’s just possible that the same person may not be called every year,’ he explained.
