HHD Armenia's Supreme Body Demands Government Withdraw Proposed Legislation
The Armenian government has submitted a bill to the National Assembly proposing amendments to the Tax Code, which seeks to replace the progressive tax rates for income tax with a flat (single unified) rate.
The proposal contradicts the constitutional requirements for a social state, ensuring intergenerational public solidarity, as well as the government's promises to combat poverty, encourage work, and implement a system of fair remuneration.
A broad coalition of professionals and youth in the public has expressed opposition to the introduction of a flat income tax. A public youth movement called "Alarm" has formed against the flat income tax. Valuing and encouraging the determination of those opposed, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (HHD) Supreme Body considers the government’s proposed initiative unacceptable and demands its withdrawal.
By publishing the viewpoint presented by the HHD's sectoral commissions office, the HHD Supreme Body is inviting all interested parties to jointly discuss alternative solutions proposed in this context.
